Services for women passengers in Indian Railways

1) In long distance Mail/Express trains a reseravation quota of 6 Sleeper Class berths is earmarked for female passengers irresepctive of age, travelling alone or in a group of female passengers.


2) In all trains having reserved sleeping accommodation, a combined quota of 6 lower berths per coach in Sleeper class and 3 lower berths per coach in AC 3 tier and AC 2 tier classes has been earmarked for senior citizens, female passengers of 45 years of age and above and pregnant women. In case of Rajdhani, Duronto and fully Air Conditioned/Express trains, the number of berths to be earmarked under this quota in 3AC is 4 lower berths per coach as against 3 lower berths per coach in normal Mail/Express trains.


3) Separate counters are earmarked at various Passenger Reservation System (PRS) centres for dealing with the reservation requisitions received from female passengers and other categories such asfreedom fighters, senior citizens etc., if the avergae demand per shift is not less than 120 tickets. In case there is no justification for earmarking of an exclusive counter for any of these categories of persons including female passengers, one or two counters depending upon the total demand are earmarked for dealing with the reservation requests for all these categories of persons.


4) Accommodation is also earmarked for female passengers in the unreserved coaches of Mail/Express trains.


5) Separate compartments/coaches have been earmarked in suburban trains for exclusive use of female passengers.


6) Ladies special trains are also run wherever required and feasible.


7) Waiting room/halls are earmarked for female passengers at important stations.


8) Separate toilets for female passengers are provided as per norms.
