Combating Adolescent Anaemia

Combating Adolescent Anaemia

The Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) Programme is an initiative to meet the challenge of high prevalence and incidence of anaemia amongst adolescent girls and boys. WIFS targets in-schoold adolecent (10-19 years) boys & girls and out of school adolescent girls. The programme includes supervised weekly ingestion of IFA supplementation and biannual helminthic control, besides providing nutrition, health education and screening of moderate/severely anemic adolescents for further managment at health facilities. The programme is implemented across the country both in rural and urban areas.
